The Central Lawn is the closest to the main building of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Two parallel channels run north and south, intersecting two others running from east to west. These water channels divide the garden into a grid of squares. At the intersection of these channels, there are sandstone fountains the shape of which is inspired by the Victoria Regia Lily. The fountains have water jets which can raise water up to twelve feet of height. Moulsiri trees are neatly planted around the garden.
The President hosts grand receptions viz. AT HOME in the Central Lawn every year on the occasion of Republic Day.
